With a lot of them I think the boys in the tower could say anything they want and still maintain their loyal support. I see old (probably retired) dubs in my area out wasting the day standing on the corner working on their time card when the be out playing golf or something. I think they could tell these guys that jehovah will return in 2020 as a large cabbage god and they would believe it and fork over more money.

01/15/2016 Watchtower Study "Keeping Loyal Despite So Many Quitters, With The Power of the Widow's Mite"
by frankiespeakin ini'm sure there will come a day when attandence just keeps plummenting, and the the kingdom hall crowd are just a bunch of aged old timers/retirees complaining about how all the young people are forgetting about jehovah and are going after all that satan's world has to offer.
what would the wt study articles look like to keep this aged non wage earning crowd putting some of their social security benefits in the contribution box?.
i offer the theme: "keeping loyal despite so many quitters, with the power of the widow's mite".

Hi Everyone!
by poopsiecakes ini haven't been here in quite a while and thought i'd pop by.
i do lurk at times, i confess lol.
after reading the recent publications at the new golden calf (jw.org), my mind is kind of blown that jw's are still not seeing through the constant adjustments, clarifications, new light and reversals.

Hi Poopsiecakes. Glad to hear you're doing so well. Like BizzyBee I've been out a long time and can't believe that many of the people I knew are still dubs. What an unbelievable waste of their lives.

How much meaning are the rank and file putting on October 2014?
by JimmyPage init's definitely on their minds.
i attended a funeral recently and a jw told me that the person who died almost made it to the 100 year anniversary of the birth of the kingdom.. curious what comments like this you've heard in your area?.

The epitome of cognitive dissonance
by sir82 init is rare to get such a startling, sparkling, perfect example of this.. here is a snippet of a conversion going on at jwtalk.net regarding israel/gaza:.

every one who is in the world today and dies tomorrow is in line for a ressurection.this is their best way of being in the new world.

And if as they say "God knows the heart" then why would he bother to resurrect them if he knows that he is just going to have to kill them all over again. Why not just resurrect the nice one? The ones that will fit in.

Also wondering if they are announcing any new light or changes.

Why WT reform would never work
by JimmyPage ini used to think how great it would be if the wt finally made long overdue changes.
higher education would no longer be frowned upon.

To me reform would mean getting rid of everything that was wrong or didn't make sense. If they admitted that Christ didn't return in 1914 then select them in 1919 and that the old men in Brooklyn weren't chosen by God and didn't know what the hell they were talking about not much would be left.
They would also have to remove the door to to door work delivering of the faulty message and admit that it was a complete waste of time emphasize by the fact jdubs who have been there a while spend most of there time in field service figuring out ways to count time without actually having to speak to anyone.

Congratulations. That is a really nice looking car. I'm pretty surperficial when it comes to buying cars. It doesn't matter how good of rep they have if I don't like something about the looks of it I won't buy it.

The Watchtower is a rediculous mean spirited organization. If they ever made enough changes to make it not rediculous and mean spirited it just wouldn't be the Watchtower. There are just too many problems for reform.

Great story. Keep us posted on what happens next. In my early days as a JW I would appoach people and confront them when I overheard them speaking bad about the Watchtower. One day a person at work offered me book to read. I think it was A Slave of the Watchtower for 20 (or 30) Years. For some reason I wasn't feeling quite as smug so I took it and read it. Nothing happened right away but it raised some doubts that continued to grow. You never really know what effect you are having on someone because it doesn't always show or it can take time for them to think things through.
Glad I continued to read this thread.

If there was a pill that could open their eyes - would you give it to them?
by truthseeker inif there was a pill you could give to your jw family members that would awaken their eyes to the truth about the cult, would you give it to them?.
most would probably say yes.. but what about those who are completely institutionalized, the elderly, the super zealous, the geeky kids who have no friends, the misfits?.
some people need "boundaries", they need someone to lead and give them directions, they need a sense of belonging, even in an organization that has no social programs.

I would give it to all of them. The young and the old. I know that some feel the old ones should be allow to live out the rest of their years in their Watchtower fantasy but the problem I see with that is that is that in most cases if not all their WT fantasy world is still reaching out harming others with shunning, the blood issue and other Watchtower BS.
